Static Electricity is the electrical charges that are generated and stored in solid materials, particles or fluids. It does not represent a direct threat to life, however, an electric shock produced by a static charge can cause a startle and expose us to a risk, depending on the circumstances in which we find ourselves.

A static spark can have enough energy to ignite vapors and dust clouds.

The objective of NOM-022-STPS-2008 (Static electricity in workplaces – Safety Conditions) is to establish preventive conditions in the building or properties due to the risk of static electricity in the workplace where they are stored, handled or transported. flammable or explosive substances, or in those companies in which, due to the nature of their processes, materials and equipment, they are capable of storing or generating static electrical charges as well as atmospheric electrical discharges.

Compliance with this standard helps us prevent Static Electricity:

Carry out an Earth Resistance Measurement study of the Earthing network. Check the continuity at the Earth connection points and measure the relative humidity when it is necessary to control the generation and accumulation of Static Electricity. Have your study of Fire Classification NOM-002-STPS in order to determine if a lightning rod system should be installed. Train the workers involved in activities in which static electricity is generated or accumulated, in the installation, review of Grounding systems and lightning rod systems Document the actions and improvements in Health and Safety implemented.

The physical land measurement report must be carried out every year.
